There is so much I love about this room from the walls to the floors, the bed, the bookshelf, the art, I could go on and on. It tells so much about the little person who sleeps here….it has so much character and style. I love the fact it is filled with books!

I think this would have to be one of the best products I have come across since starting Boys Germs. Whether your child can read or not, getting them familiar with their neighbour, streets, landmarks etc is a fantastic way to stay safe.

A little info from the creator….

The I am Here play mat is custom-designed to their neighbourhood and is professionally printed on high quality vinyl. Easy to keep clean and store, the play mat can be wiped with a cloth and rolled up when playtime is over.

Sizes available:
Small – 20″ x 28″ (makes a great childhood keepsake)
Medium – 28″ x 45″
Large – 28″ x 68″

The only information that is required to create to your custom play mat is the full address that you would like the map to be based on. Please note that maps can be created for pretty much anywhere in the world as long as the full address is provided.

The larger the size the more of the neighbourhood we can cover. On average the length of the Large size will cover about 1 mile (1.6 kilometres). I always try to get as many connecting streets on as I can. All street names are printed in a very large and easy to read font.

In terms of marking locations on the play mat I do carry a great line of vinyl stickers so that you can now add even more detail to your custom play mat.

Marble Run Train Track!

This reminds me of that old game Mouse Trap. If the boys grow tired of driving trains along the tracks, set up a marble run!

I have seen a few different versions of this idea but I love this one. You could even use one of those large nappy cases. Handy for in the car and on holidays.

A simple idea that is just soooo effective. I bet you are wondering why you didn’t think of it. Just sitting here thinking of the different colour combinations and pieces I could use….such a unique cool idea. My boys would go crazy if I made it for their wall or door!

Drawers with robot style

If you have an old chest of drawers or just don’t like the look of the ones you have, why not paint them and match them to the theme of your boy’s bedroom. I came across this DIY project at Funcycled. Robots I think would be easy for a basic painter (as there are really just squares and circles) and the finished products looks awesome!

My Weather Station

My six year old is very curious about weather. Every morning on the way to school he gives me a little weather report and his prediction of what the weather will be like during the day. I found this Weather Station and to my delight it is a free printable!

You could frame a comic book and make it a great talking piece in your boy’s room but why stop there when you could do the whole wall. I think this looks amazing. It could bring so much life to a room and make it extra special!

Use a noodle to stop him rolling out!

I see loads of ideas for pool noodles and this one is an awesome idea if you have moved your little guy into a big bed. Place a pool noodle under the fitted sheet to stop him rolling out of bed at night.

Is the cubby looking dull?

If the cubby house is looking a little dull and boring or the boys want it to look more like a knights castle, why not spray paint it! The owner of this DIY project used three to four cans of Rustoleum spray paint to achieve this great result. The boys will think it is a new cubby house when you are finished!
